![]() Q: When will the final schedule be available? A: The final schedule will be available sometime in early August '09. Q: When do tickets and passes go on sale? How much will they be? A: Tickets go on sale July, 2009 through the Sunrise Box Office, and via phone at (812) 323-3020. Ticket prices are TBA. TOP Q: Will there be merchandise tables? A: Yes - there will be a limited number of merch tables. If you're interested in renting a table for the weekend it is strongly recommended that you contact us early, as booths ALWAYS sell out. TOP Q: I'm coming from out of town. Do you have hotel recommendations? A: We are currently working with the Bloomington Visitor's Bureau to offer a special hotel package for our guests and patrons, and we'll be posting that info here in the upcoming weeks. Until then, be sure to check out www.visitBloomington.com for a comprehensive hotel listing. TOP Q: Is your event wheelchair accessible? Do you have listening devices for the hearing impaired? A: Yes! The historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater is wheelchair accessible and has reserved wheelchair seating. Listening devices are available. Just ask the nearest usher for assistance. TOP Q: Are you currently accepting submissions? A: We're ALWAYS accepting submissions. The final deadline for films this year is July 25th, 2009. Click here to read the submission guidelines. After you check out the guidelines, you can submit your film online or via snailmail with our downloadable form. For more on film submissions, go to our SUBMISSIONS page and click on the Filmmaker FAQ TOP Q: What prizes are you awarding to the winners? What are the awards categories? A: We'll be awarding prizes in the following categories: - Best Independent Feature Film - Best Independent Short Film - Best Cinematography - Best Special Effects - Best Editing - Best Screenplay We also have a new screenplay competition this year where the winner of Best Short Screenplay gets their film produced and distributed by Dark Carnival, Clockwerk Pictures and DarkRider Films. For more info, see our Awards page TOP Q: How much are submission fees? A: "Early Bird" Fees are just $10 for short films (under 35 minutes) and $15 for feature films up to 99 minutes, and $20 for films 100+ minutes. For more on film submissions, go to our SUBMISSIONS page and click on the Filmmaker FAQ TOP Q: My movie is pretty intense- lots of gore, etc. Can I still submit? A: Hell yeah - gore is good - just don't be lame. We're looking for more than just someone's backyard zombie movie. Quality is everything- we're looking for good production values, a good story, etc. We'd much rather see a really good, tightly edited 25 minute movie, than a mediocre 90 minute movie. As far as content, obviously we draw the line at porn, animal cruelty or actual depiction of human death. For more on film submissions, go to our SUBMISSIONS page and click on the Filmmaker FAQ TOP Q: What is Dark Carnival all about? Where'd the name come from? A: Contrary to what some may think, our name has absolutely nothing to do with hardcore hip hop clowns. Dark Carnival's home in Bloomington has a long history as a circus town, going back more than a hundred years. In the early 20th century, there were at least two to three traveling circuses that called Bloomington home. In addition, the festival is influenced by the writings of HP Lovecraft, and a series of horror short stories by Ray Bradbury which deal with a demonic fall carnival that rolls into small towns in the dead of night to prey upon the souls of the weak and lonely. The carnival theme creates a unique atmosphere for an event that celebrates multiple facets of horror, including live entertainment, music and film.
