Dark Carnival is a week-long celebration of horror, featuring live entertainment, merchandise vendors, special guests and more - but most of all, we're all about the movies!

We screen the best indie horror films from all over the planet, in the best possible venues - including a vintage drive-in, and a historic 1930s era movie theater that features state-of-the-art sound and projection equipment, on a 30 by 20 foot screen.

September 28 - October 4, 2009
Bloomington, Indiana

September 28-30 at 11pm
DARK'S GRAND GUIGNOL THEATRE - Dark Carnival 2009 kicks of with a LIVE, interactive horror show - Dark's Grand Guignol Theatre, featuring a terrifying mash-up of cinema and live performance. The audience becomes part of the show as a sadistic killer prowls the streets stalking his next victim. The live gore effects will have you squirming in your seat and ducking for cover. NOTE: This is a small venue and THERE WILL BE BLOOD. Audience members are encouraged to dress accordingly.

Thursday, October 1 at 7pm
CINEMA SCHLOCKFEST at the DRIVE-IN - Sideshow performers and a creepy carnival midway kick-off an evening of classic schlock horror films at the Starlite Drive-In. LIVE (or DEAD) horror hosts from all over the country will be our special guests, as they present the films.

Friday, October 2
HORROR HOST TRIBUTE - Horror hosts from all over will gather to pay tribute to Vampira, the original "Mistress of the Dark" and the world's first TV horror host.

Michael Monahan, producer of the documentary American Scary will be a special guest of honor. Mr Monahan had the opportunity to conduct one of the last interviews with Maila Nurmi before she passed away, and he will be presenting NEVER BEFORE SEEN FOOTAGE, exclusively at Dark Carnival!

There will also be a "Vampira Museum" on display throughout the weekend, featuring artwork, photographs, and artifacts.

Friday, October 2
FILMMAKING & SFX WORKSHOPS - Whether you're an up-and-coming filmmaker or just a fan, Dark Carnival has a great line-up of presentations and workshops.

Meet Bill Wieger who created special effects for such horror/sci-fi classics as Blade and Species. Bill will be talking about his experiences as a Hollywood effects artist.

If you're thinking about making you're own movie, learn the ins and outs of indie filmmaking from George Bonilla, a successful writer, producer, and director from ZP International Films. George's workshop last year was a huge hit, and he's coming back for an even bigger one for 2009. Visit our SCHEDULE page for MORE!

Saturday & Sunday, October 3-4
FILM FESTIVAL SCREENINGS, CELEBRITY GUESTS, MERCHANDISE VENDORS & MORE! - Dark Carnival presents an exciting collection of the world's best independent horror films from all over the world. We'll be showing films throughout the weekend, in multiple screening series at the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

Between films be sure to check out the Dark Carnival Vendor Area where you can find great horror merchandise and memorabilia and meet our celebrity guests. Later Saturday night we'll be presenting our horror burlesque/fashion show, just before our special Adults-Only screening series, and then join us at midnight for our legendary VIP Banquet & After Party.

The show continues on Sunday with even more screamings, er - screenings.

We've gotten rave reviews from horror fans and filmmakers alike (check out some of the letters on our PRESS page) and now it's time to gear up for the next Dark Carnival. We're looking for the best indie horror films and screenplays from all over the world for our 2009 fest.
